Starting on the farm in 1968 Richard and Rose Holschlag needed to purchase a grain bin for their farming operation. After answering an ad (selling grain bins) in a farm magazine a salesman came to visit the family farm. The salesman quoted the equipment needed. They knew they needed this equipment to increase marketing options and profitability. However, they did not know how they could afford to pay for it.
It was then the salesman told them they could get a better price on the bin and equipment if they would sign up to be a dealer.
Richard thought maybe they could sell a few grain bins to his neighbors. The promotional materials were provided by the salesman and manufacturer. Richard and Rose used their funds to provide postage and they mailed the promotional material to every land owner address in the local plat book.
Then to pay for the postage Richard put his new information in the car and went out to see prospective customers. Just like that the new business had begun.
The first year they sold over 30 grain bins, the second over 60, and the third over 100.
In 1972 they made a decision to rent out the farm land. The grain bin business had grown so large that there was simply not enough hours
in a day to do both.
With a desire to provide better products and service to customers and other dealers Holschlag Distributors was added in 1977. Customers and dealers across the country depend on Holschlag Distributors for parts and knowledge when working on grain handling and drying equipment.
After building and working on bins since childhood Joseph Holschlag, one of six children, purchased the family business in 1988.
